Folks,

The sunny gorge at Letchworth played backdrop as some, but not all of the
competitions for 2009 Club Champion resolved. With one race left in the
series, one competitor can take a ceremonial lap while others need to grind
out another top finish.

Rob Holmes solidified his hold on the open male division with a finish
behind only William Hawkins (who has not run in any other series events and
is out of contention). Mike or Nate Lyons has a chance to tie Rob with a
win - but only if Rob doesn't also come in second. Sergey Dobretsov and
Pavel Korniliev can now only look on, as even with a win they won't top
Rob's points in the series.

With a second win in four races under her belt, Stina Bridgeman has clinched
the Female Open division - congratulations Stina! Second place is the best
the others can hope for.

With a blistering effort, Pete Dady took a commanding lead in the Male
Masters division. Vince Cassano suffered a setback on the course, capturing
only 5th place. But still - he can earn another 10 points with a win, and
that would tie him with Pete's current total. Even if Vince does that, Pete
can hold on in if earns second place - that would bump out his third place
result from the first week of competition and give him one more point! The
others in this division just can't reach Pete.

Jackie Novkov enjoyed the fall day to take the top of the Female Masters
classification. But because she has only a ten point lead, she'll have to
come out and compete at Powder Mill Park - if Laurie Hunt get's the
opportunity to win, and Jackie doesn't finish, they too would be tied!

The Male Veterans category is as close as it could get - Bob Bundy and
Richard Burgey continue to battle it out for control of the series. In this
week's chapter, Richard picked up another win, while Bob captured second.
Bob holds just a 1 point lead. Looking forward to Powder Mill - Richard
moves up 1 point with a 3rd place finish, 2 with a second, and three with a
first. Bob moves up 1 point with a first place. And so Bob ensures at least
a tie with a victory in Powder Mill, and Richard secures the title with a
win himself. The others in this division have fallen off and compete only
for third.

Dayle Lavine both enabled the club to race at Letchworth by setting some
very fine courses with Rick, and potentially secured her win over Kathy
Bannister in the Female Veterans category at the same time. If Dayle
doesn't compete in Powder Mill, she wins with 30 points - Kathy can't touch
it. If Dayle competes in the last race, her performance will average with
her earlier win to produce the value used for her two course setting events.
So - if she completes the race, she'll should earn nothing less than a third
place - and safely take the series championship. But if she happens to DNF,
her average score will plummet and leave an opening for Kathy! I'd
personally like to see them both get the chance to compete against each
other again this season, so let's root for them both to show up;-)

No change in the youth categories as none of the leaders raced at
Letchworth. Many of them can still jump into the lead with a win at Powder
Mill Park.

I thought we might have more resolution with the efforts at Letchworth - but
four big classifications remain open to a tie or leader change based on this
last race. (And that's pretty exciting;-)

See you at Powder Mill Park where the 2009 club series championships will be
decided!
