A quick update about the upcoming CNYO Adventure Sprint Dec. 4 at The
Nordic Center @ Hope Lake.
Keeping with past tradition this fun & entertaining race will still be a
multi-stage running/navigational event with a few modifications from past
years. As of this message the format consists of the following;
- A mass start RUN of all competitors begins at 11:00 AM at the pavilion
at Hope Lake (up Clute road from Greek Peak) and heads 700 meters to the
back side of Hope Lake Lodge where;
- Competitors will start a short 1.3km ORIENTEERING LOOP with the twist
being runners may choose to do it clockwise or counterclockwise, whichever
seems "easiest". At the end of this loop they will;
- Complete another 1.3km RUN to the NW side of Hope Lake where they will
begin another;
- ORIENTEERING LOOP that has forked legs such that by choosing the easiest
navigational set of legs allows for the longest running distance.
Conversely, choosing the much more difficult navigational legs the distance run
will be much shorter. At the moment these distance measure 1.6km for difficult
navigation and 1.9km for easy navigation but a larger separation of the
possible choices is being worked on. This O loop will then end at the pavilion
for the start of the;
- MAXIMUS CLIMBUS run. We're dropping the Mt. Bike portion this year
(since weather conditions has never allowed for this stage anyway) and
substituting a 1km run to the new cell tower at the top of Hillcrest that gives
runners (walkers?) a 100 meter total climb. That's 10% climb in one segment for
those that count. At the top of the hill competitors then begin the final
stage of;
- SCORE-O to the end. Controls throughout the area have various point
values ranging from 1 to 3 and each competitor needs to accumulate about (final
total hasn't been decided yet) 10 points before finally returning to the
park pavilion for the finish.
Unlike most CNYO local events this special race has a mass start of all
competitors at 11:00am SHARP so registration will be from 9 'til 10:30 and the
cost will be $7 for club members and $10 for non-members. Refreshments
will be served after the race and the charcoal grill will be fired up for
anyone wanting to bring their own "cookables".
