Sprague Brook Park Sunday, October 23

Four Courses:
White/Yellow for beginners (instruction provided);
Orange for intermediate level orienteers;
Green and Red courses for advanced orienteers.

This will be a regular point-to-point Orienteering event. You can register from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM. The starting times for all of the courses will be from 11:00 AM until Noon. We will have courses for people of any experience level, for walkers and for runners. Instruction will be available.

Some of the control points will be the same as ones used during our earlier A-meet, but the courses are all entirely new. The people doing the beginner and intermediate courses will receive their maps at registration; those doing the advanced courses will get their maps at the start. Some of the trails on the advanced courses will be a little hard to see because of the fall leaves, and some places in the woods will be slippery. Rootstocks and distinct trees are marked on the map in green rather than brown. There will be no e-punching at this meet.

The $8 fee ($4 for orienteering club members) includes entry into your choice of the four courses and a 5-color park map (created in 2007 and updated this year) with a 1:10,000 scale. All you need to bring is your compass (we have a limited number to loan out) and appropriate running or hiking clothing. We will have food after the meet: hot dogs, apples, and cookies.

Sprague Brook Park is located on Foote Road off of Route 240 in the town of Glenwood. It is approximately 2.5 miles north of Genesee Road in East Concord and approximately 4.5 miles south of the town of Colden, not far from the Kissing Bridge ski area. The start will be at the cross-country ski warming hut (turn to the right after driving into the park). Follow the orienteering signs that we will place to guide you.

If you have questions, e-mail meet director Rob Reeves (ninjarob3000 at yahoo.com) or e-mail or call assistant meet director Lincoln Blaisdell (linc43 at roadrunner.com or (716) 479-9431).
