[roc-info] Early update for Feb. 13 CNYO ESG Ski-O

Some quick notes of interest concerning the Feb. 13 ESG  Ski-O qualifier 
hosted by CNYO at The Nordic Center (@ Greek Peak, Virgil, NY). 
Format for this event will consist of two stages; A  Middle distance race 
in the morning and a Sprint distance race in the  afternoon. 
Official time for this event adds both stages for a total  two race time. 
To be ESG eligible competitors must complete both  stages. 
Registration opens at 9:00 am in the pavilion warming hut  at The Nordic 
Center. 
Start window for Middle distance stage is between 10:00  am to 12:00 pm. 
Start window for the Sprint distance stage is between  12:00 pm to 2:00 am. 
Fees for this event are slightly higher than most ESG  qualifiers since 
daily trail pass at The Nordic Center is inclusive and will be  charged at a 
rate of $12 for any active Orienteering club members, and $16 for  non 
members. 
The Nordic Center is a mid sized XC ski area associated  with Greek Peak 
Alpine area located just south of the city of Cortland,  NY. 
In addition to the extensively groomed trail network at  the area many 
additional secondary trails will be added specifically for this  event. 
The maps and grooming will use standards set out by the  IOF for Ski-O's. 
The trail network grooming for this event will consist of  60% wide (< 2m 
width), 30% medium (1.3m width) and 10% narrow/soft (>1m  width). 
This season The Nordic Center has been open since the first week  in 
December with very good to excellent snow cover throughout. 
Presently (2/2/11) unpacked snow ranges from 24" to 40"  with 
groomed/packed trails having a 10" to 24" base. The ice storm last night  missed the area 
and cold & snowy conditions are predicted for the next  couple weeks. 
Age Class structure will follow the present ESG Qualifier  standards and as 
with all CNYO events recreational, non-competitive courses will  be 
offered.
